HVSA – Parents, Coaches and Players,

We are really excited to share the upcoming plans for Happy Valley Softball 2013.  We are teaming up with Clackamas High School to create a continuum from T-Ball to high school.  How this will all shake out in the years to come will be a work in progress but we definitely have some exciting things planned.

Dave Just, the Clackamas High School Coach, wants to provide some tools and techniques to HVSA coaches.  Ultimately, we want to provide some consistency between what the girls are learning at T-Ball, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and the Clackamas High School softball program.

To get this started HVSA players are encouraged to take part in open gym time at Clackamas High School starting Sunday December 16.  The current schedule is attached and as things change we will keep an updated list on the HVSA website.  But the general schedule for the upper gym will be:

  • 4:00 – 5:15pm  HVSA will have access to the batting cages
  • 5:15 – 6:00 pm a guest or organization will come in and make a presentation (ie. January 20th, Louisville Slugger will be at the high school and your daughter can try out equipment.  In the past there have been some good deals at these events)
  • 6:00 pm batting cages available to high school girls only.

Note parents for your daughter to participate we will need a HVSA registration form filled out and turned in.  We need to get your daughter ASA registered to have insurance for your daughter and HVSA using the high school space.

To kick things off HVSA will be having a Parent, Coaches and Players meeting at the high school on December 2nd at 7 PM.  We will have registration forms, uniforms for the girls to try on for sizing and a presentation on the 2013 season.  Things that will be discussed are:

  • How do meet the needs of all of our players – recreational softball players, tournament players and those that want a mix of both.
  • How do you know which option is best for your daughter?

Parents we are excited about the future and can really use additional volunteers, so please send us an email with your interest.

To ALL Coaches and potential coaches – Dave Just would like to have a meeting with all of you as we begin this partnership.  So look for a meeting sometime in the new year to discuss how we work together and develop a continuum from T-Ball to High School.

HVSA participates in ASA Softball, which has the following levels, based upon the player’s age:

14U

If born between January 1, 1998 – December 31, 1999

12U

If born between January 1, 2000 – December 31, 2001

10U

If born between January 1, 2002 – December 31, 2003

  8U

If born between January 1, 2004 – December 31, 2005

T-Ball

If born between January 1, 2006 – December 31, 2007

A child who is advanced for her age may elect to play up one level, but no one is allowed to play down a level.  The only exception is the gray area between T-Ball and 8U.  The recommended ages for T-Ball are 5 & 6, but there is leeway, so please give us a call if you are uncertain.
